To quote Trump the deputy that did not wade into the recent high school shoot 'is at the least a disgrace at the worst a coward'
Now I have recently been watching a series of programs investigating the mass shootings in America and all the trained professionals on there stat that you should not enter as an individual but wait until there are at least 3 armed trained professionals.
So is Trump right is the deputy a coward or a disgrace or did he do the right thing?
The man has now resigned and is being slated by the President - I cannot think what that poor man is going through at them moment.
What are your thoughts please?

You don't go blindly charging in when there is gunfire going on. Assess the situation and act accordingly.

However U.S does have a "gun culture" right or wrong, so get over it and on that basis, the deputy was employed to protect that particular community and almost by definition didn't do his job (allegedly).

A coward is someone who acts in a way to avoid danger to himself whilst employed in his duties and by that definition he is a coward.

What would I have done? No idea, probably run in the opposite direction BUT would have to accept the definition of cowardice.

There have been cases here when folk have died because protocol demanded further help was necessary ...drowning in iced ponds ..and famously the lady that fell down a disused shaft.. gun culture is not going to change there ..sadly...

1. The Guard did exactly as he was trained.
2. Three Police Deputies who first arrived did the same.
3. Trump claims he would have been an hero and definitely would have gone in alone.
4. Trump was a draft dodger who stayed at home while other American young men were fighting for their country in Vietnam.

He's hardly exhibited cowardice or a dereliction of duty by waiting for back up to arrive in the same way the Tunisian police did at the time of the 2015 beach massacre. Those pusillanimous weasels deliberately drove in the wrong direction to avoid the carnage that was unfolding.

This deputy simply acted in accordance with his training. It would have been pointless charging in as one man with one weapon, not knowing the scale of what you were up against. Some foolish acts of "heroism" can actually lead to more lives being lost in crossfire.

Yes......I agree that he was doing what he was trained to do...so his lawyer said. So whilst "backup " arrives....say 15mins.....how many more pupils would have been killed? I don't know.

I don't think that doing what you are trained to do makes you a coward but NOT doing what you were trained to do MAY make you a hero, perhaps posthumously.

In these situations one should ask, "What would Dirty Harry do?"
Well he certainly wouldn't run into the line of fire and get himself immediately shot which would be of no use to anyone, he would keep cover and try to find a vantage position from where he could take out the gunman.

He had a gun, the other officers had a gun. There was every chance in the chaos and carnage they could have got a shot at the gunman's back.

They are cowards in my book.
