What sad lives they lived. No family, no love, tragic.
Ta for that, steg. Was very interested in the Wild West back in the day reading about the usual 'legends' such as the Earps, Doc Holliday, Billy The Kid & Pat Garrett, etc, etc. Rember reading about Big Nose Kate and her relationship with the Doc. She claimed to have witnessed the 'Gunfight at the OK Corral' and was wih Holliday when he died of TB.
Not such a bad life for many of them, who made money, lived well and did good. Who'd have thought the last of the Wild Bunch died in Memphis in 1961? She might have known Elvis.
I think they look very elegant , great photographs .
Those photos are of the 'lucky 'ones.
I was amazed when I found out that the 'wild west' lasted for only 30 years.
I'm not so sure, Tilly, unless you mean lucky not to have died in a shootout. A few seem to be very comfortably off but others, such as the Dawson City ones, just look like ordinary working women. I expect the same range of rich and poor would have shown up in photos of people in any profession.
