Anyone Still Affected By Snow/snowed In

There was still a covering when I looked out this morning bit its all disappeared now.

Also, what happened to Storm Emma? Or did she not hit London and the South - I did get caught in a bit of a snow blizzard on my way home from work yesterday though.

I know of quite a few people who've had boiler problems over the last few days.

Very lucky here in Stoke, we have escaped virtually all of the snow.

The worst thing has been the wind, and the effect on boilers - ours, one of my daughters' and my mother-in-law's boilers all conked out on Friday!

We all share a plumber, who is wonderful, so of course, working until ten at night! He got us all working again though.

Our problem was the wind which blows into the outlet pipe and freezes the drain pipe, which conks the boiler. There is nothing you can do to prevent it, you have to leave the vent exposed, and lagging it has no effect on the boiler itself.

Happily, the fix is to disconnect the draining pipe and empty it, pour some hot salt water down it, and reconnect, and re-fire the boiler. I have done that again today, and it worked - yipeee!

I really sympathise with any AB'ers snowed in, we have been seriously lucky, and I am grateful for the fates that spared us.

Just been looking at the BBC Weather forecast and Cardiff has a little black cloud with tiny blue layered dots under it. What does that indicate? Never seen it before.

I'm affected in as much as I've been trying to get to Inverness since Wednesday when the red warning was put in place.

My caring, sharing boss is allowing me to do the journey tomorrow instead. I'll miss Sunday school. :-)

After a week of being housebound the pavements outside are now snow and ice-free, so I can try and go outside tomorrow. Also our waste pipes have been frozen so haven't been able to use the sink or washing machine. Hopefully they will defrost over the next couple of days.

I'm home today after being stranded in a hotel since Wednesday.

The snow ploughs cut throw the deep drifts yesterday and finally managed to clear a route to our viilage in Norfolk last night, and the thaw has come today. Good to be home.

The stretched of road I have to walk between the bus stop and work is a kind of wind tunnel and when I walked through it on Thursday the icy wind was blowing onto my forehead and caused me to have brain freeze. It was very odd!

Started to thaw slightly, but still lots of snow in my neck of the woods.

We still have 3 foot drifts on front drive and rear patio.
OH dug a path through so he could walk to paper shop this morning. No supplements with the papers though.
Just one lane on the road slightly clear outside.

Starting to thaw, but still got fairly deep snow here. The road looks passable. I live at the top of a fairly steep hill so a bit worried about my car skidding down if I drive, or me skidding down if I walk which I did on Thursday. Got a bruised knee and other parts.

Thankfully we still have power and heating.
