I Have A Gadget!

I don't know what it is for. I cannot remember where I got it.
It is metal, about 6" long. It looks like a two pronged fork.
When you push the end of the main stem the two prongs move up.
I was always under the misapprehension that it was for removing stones from olives.
I tried to do that with it. It didn't work.
Anyone any idea?

It's for removing snails from their shells before you eat them.

Not keen on silverskins. Too mild. I prefer the big onions in brown vinegar.
