Depends in what context. Beiong compliant means following the pre-determined rules.

So in a financial services organisation, a compliance officer is like the company police(wo)man, making sure that staff comply with industry policy and rules.

But I'm sure there are rules for all sorts of industries; financial services compliance is just the one that springs to mind.

my friend has just had 2 women knock on her door asking for her husband.She panicked as they looked quite intimidating and said she didnt know who they were talking about,but they left her a card anyway and it says Department of Works and Pensions on it,and one of the womans name and job title as Compliance Inspector.She is baffled who they are.

Sorry, didnt mean to imply that your friend was. It may be someone using a flase name and address.
Is she not married then? Has she checked that they were above board and not frauds?

They work for Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs, the old Inland Revenue, as do I.
They tend to sit on their @rses doing fantasy football and drinking coffee in my experience, and in their spare time, they try to make employers pay the right amount of tax.

the hubby has called the number on the card and a woman answered,When he asked who they were she said CSA.He has been sent form from a previous partner but has filled them all in and returned them.
