I never got to know my Grandfathers, my Grandmothers were very different in character and approach.
Paternal Gran, was very Victorian and the typical storybook grey bun and tiny wire rimmed glasses, her home was always toasty warm from the range burning in the corner and I loved the lace and bead covers on the crystal salt and sugar pots. If we stayed we had a little stool to climb onto her very high bed.
She wasn't overly demonstrative, but at times I caught a wicked glint in her eye if we were playing a silly game - she was safe and comforting.
Maternal Gran was modern, madcap and fun - loved fashion and embraced all new innovations. Far more likely to join in games rther than sit and watch from the sidelines.
They both taught me so much.
I'm Grandmother to four, the fourth born since my Husband died 10 years ago (they would have got on splendidly) - I've been very involved with them since day one and still am. Going away with three of them at Easter.
They certainly light up my life.
Enjoy your wonderful relationship Anthro, sounds very special indeed.
