Paying rent to my partner

Does anyone know what the minimum amount of rent is that I can pay my partner if I moved into his flat? I understand that i will have to pay some, as otherwise i can claim part of it if we split after a few years, but I don't know how much.

I don't really understand your question. There is no minimum, you can live there fore free if he lets you.

Hi, I've been told that if you don't pay 'rent' to your partner, you can make a claim on the house after a couple of years. But if he can prove a singnificant rent coming in, it show you are a 'tenant' and have no rights to the property.

monkey78 - by your logic you could also argue that you had a recorded history of contributions towards his mortgage and, as such, should have a claim on the house.

Draw up a tenancy agreement if you want proof of a tenancy and no claim on the house or draw up a contract that states that you're making no contribution to the house and have no claim on it.
