Recycle Bin In Win XP

My recycle bin shows it has items in it, when i open the recycle bin, it is empty? but it asks me do i want to delete the items? There is nothing in there!!! & it still shows it has items in when you look at the recycle bin in desktop.
Whats goin on????

maybe there are hidden files in there.

Is there a way of seeing the hidden files once you are in the recycle bin???

yep.
Go Tools -> Folder Options -> View and select 'Show hidden files and folders' - should be near bottom of initial list - inset slightly with a round button
