Some of the best 'post function' grub I've had was at my uncle's funeral last month. Mini bagels with cream cheese and smoked salmon, hot spicy fishcakes with sweet chilli dip and loads of other yummy stuff. With a choice of Prosecco or orange juice on arrival and a free bar from then on. It was a better 'do' than many weddings I've been to!
We got married at 5.00 pm. We had a Wedding Dinner. :-)
The barbecue with posh salads overlooking the Thames at my son's wedding was fantastic.

While we're on the subject of weddings ,do you think speeches should be banned ?
Some are excruciatingly cringeworyhy

There are the exceptions of course - my speech at my daughter's wedding went down a storm - I was told afterwards that I was very funny
No. Been to lots of weddings. Cheese and pineapple on stick.
Egg, sandwich, pork pie, and sausage. Drumsticks etc. Not my favourite.
I seem to go to funerals these days :-(

Some dire food served on those occasions.
"The smell of the parafin on the road kill lends a certain Je ne sais quoi" I don't know what kind of BBQs you go to..
Very nice 237sj, or can I call you 23?
Yes, went to a friend's wedding in Savannah. The family are lovely and very down to earth, but also absolutely loaded, so we had a massive tent serving food, with chefs individually preparing dishes to your own personal requests. Had a great time.
Our wedding food was amazing,
Salmon Nicoise, mango and orange sorbet, salt marsh lamb roast potatoes seasonal veg and Yorkshire puddings , trio of chocolate mousse, red berries, mega cheeseboards with all sorts of nibbles and fruit, nuts, pickles, all served with appropriate wines and port with the cheese. Gorgeous presentation as well and the vegetarian options were also lovely.

Speeches were a deliberate omission I just stood up. Said thanks for coming and this is the timetable, reception bit to finish at 2100 to continue round Birmingham with a real ale pub crawl.
Food at weddings is as good or bad as the thought and planning that goes into it, but good food can be done on any budget, even a next to non existent one. If all you can run to is a few quid then that's fine, as long as things are fresh and nice.
I've had some shocking food at wedding but also some absolutely excellent food, and the price paid doesn't always reflect the result.
Not liking salmon mousse ? And I thought I was particular about foodstuffs.
The food was lovely at my son's wedding. Plenty of it, very nicely prepared.
Speeches were given by the bride, the groom and the best woman. They didn't go on too long or embarrass anyone. Just little fun stories about each other, and thanks to their families.
