what is the difference between "unknown number" and "private number" on my landline phone? I know what the difference is on my cell phone. And is there a way of tracing an "unknown number" or a "private number"?

The police could possibly trace some, with good reason, but the individual can't.

If you are getting abusive phone calls inform the police and your telephone service provider.
A unknown number is one the phone network doesnt recognize, (i.e. foreign), a private number is withheld
Some people try to harass you or blackmail you via telephone calls. The people who fall into such type of situations know very well how it feels. All you need to do is to stay calm and also don't lose confidence. I had also been in such circumstance and was trying badly to identify the caller. Then one of my relatives told me suggested reverse canada. With this, I got to know the caller details with a click. As you are also facing the same kind of situation, you can do the same thing!
