Messenger service pop ups
4 Answers
I keep getting pop ups from messenger service saying I have a corrupt reg and to go to regfixit.com or correctreg.com.
Patchreg.com has just popped up as well now.
Only one said it was from Microsoft and I need advice what to do as this is really irritating.
One odd thing is they sometimes say I have a virus and other stuff for a long list of op. systems that I don't have.
I have just installed spybot and hoped it would sort it out , but obviously not.
Regpro32.com has just popped up now and regproscan.com
Please help before I go completely barmy.

I've had the same virrus. The virrus basically hi-jacks your home page and displays stupid messages using the XP update thingy.
I got rid of it by using avg and a little know how. You need to start the computer in safe mode, and edit some registry keys. Theres a site i'll show ya that will help you, its probs worth printing the instuctions since you wont be able to access it in safe mode.
Go to this website, read the summary then click advanced, start up in safe mode, copy the files on the advanced sheet to a new folder and rename them just in case you need them again.

Installing Microsoft's or Giant's antispyware automatically shuts down the messenger service if it's popups like this one rather ones that appear in a browser window (Internet Explorer/Firefox etc.)
Failing that you can stop it manually if you search google for instructions.
