Quite a deep cut on back of hand, was bleeding, now becoming painful, been washed by hospital and given Flucloxacillin... how long before it feels better and heals? Happened yesterday evening. Tia

Mesnt to say we are a bit worried as I have read that cat bite bacteria is resistant to this antibiotic. Thanks all.
Probably towards the end of the course of tablets. Assume 4 per day. Pack of 28 = 7 Days should see an improvement (poss review at that point)?

Cat bites can be nasty - my doctor says it is like poison being injected into your system. Last time I was bitten I had two courses of antibiotics before it cleared up. The bacteria is not resistant to all antibiotics.

your natural body defences will probably fight off any infection before the antibodies kick in they are likely on a precaution. the pain will be localised bruising

Thanks everyone.
I'd a dog bite about 6 mths. ago and was given a prescription for antibiotics to use if it went nasty. Was told cat bites always went nasty, so use the antibiotic you have been given and (sqad's favourite)
'monitor the situation'. If no improvement in a few days - or earlier if you are worried - get back to doc.!
0ver the weekend should see a marked improvement.
Getting the correct antibiotic is an educated guess by the GP, but he/she usually guesses correctly.
Don't worry.
usually takes me about a 4/5 days to recover from a bite - if i end up on antib's that is. luckily the little **** has mellowed slightly in old age.
Happened to me a few years ago. Cat made two puncture wounds between my thumb and forefinger. The nurse asked if I had an up to date tetanus injection (yes) and gave me a weeks supply of antibiotics. Advised me to keep an eye on the arm and go to a hospital if it looked as though the infection was spreading.
