Help Please - Motorbike Battery.

I am a total moron when it comes to anything mechanical....

I took the battery out of my bike a while ago. I should have taken a photo so that I knew how to reinstall it (stupid mistake).

I have just gone to reinstall it and there are two black leads which go onto the negative terminal and a red one to go on the positive. So far so good - even I know that much.

The problem is there's two additional, smaller leads, one black one and one with a red sheath, and for the life of me I don't remember removing them. The obvious answer (it seems to me) is to put the black one on the negative terminal with the two main black leads and the red one on the positive terminal with the main positive lead. However, they're tied fairly close together, and whilst both will go on either the negative or the positive, there's not enough for one to go on each, which leads me to the conclusion they must both go on to just one of the terminals.

I've taken a picture, but don't know how to add photos to AB.

Any help would be most appreciated.

i there anything underneath the battery to attach them to? Have you traced the wires back to see what they serve (alarm? some bit of kit?)
what bike is it?

It's an MV Agusta Brutale. I'm pretty sure there's nothing else to attach them to.

Some of these MV's have the battery installed lying on their side...try fitting it thus with the terminals at the top - the auxilliary cables may then reach the appropriate terminals.

Indeed, the correct orientation is the battery name and info uppermost (Yuasa YTZ10S etc.), terminals on the left side of frame, positive to rear.

From the service manual.

"WARNING: The inversion of the battery
wires can damage the battery and the
recharging system. The red wires must
be connected to the positive terminal
(+), while the black wires must be con-
nected to the negative terminal (-).
When removing the battery, disconnect
the negative terminal FIRST and then
the positive terminal. When reinstalling
the battery, use the reverse procedure." Page 169.
