Samsung HR720 dvd recorder help please

I have a samsung HR720 DVD recorder with an 80gig hard drive. I wantt o put in a 250gig drive. Its an IDE drive in the recorder and I have an IDE hard drive to use.
Do I need a special type of disc format or anything.
Any advice is most welcome.

I would be interested in doing the same with my Philips HD recorder.

But have a read of this:
