OH transfered some money from his bank to an old account of mine that is now closed, silly mistake on his part, that was on monday, I understood it automatically came back to his account, but it has'nt, does anyone know how long it should take
If that's what you have been told by the first line customer service agent, I suggest you call the bank again and ask to speak to a supervisor or other senior member of staff - especially if the amount involved is more than a small amount e.g. £20.00. Has your OH got proof of the payment e.g. deposit slip? If so, get an e-mail address and send them a copy of it.
When you say transfered, how did he try to pay the money into your a/c.
Personally I wouldn't start flapping yet, after all it is only the third day. If it hasn't been received by midnight tonight, then start chasing it tommorow !
When I worked in the head office of a building society, the same sort of thing happpened to one of our clients living in Dorset. I eventually traced the missing money, it had been transferred to an account at the Bank of England and on discovering this, I arranged it to be sent back to our client.
So, don't worry, the money will be safely deposited somewhere, but I couldn't say how long it will take to get back to your account.
Just in case the 3 day recall actually works - leave it over the weekend. If the money is not back after 09:00 on Monday in your OH account then perhaps he should talk to somebody more senior in his bank to progress this? You may also wish to talk to your bank as well?
