Trying to find a thriller espionage, man on the run, fiction book about an older man [retired cia/fbi agent?] on the run across Europe/London? [NOT The Bourne Trilogy!]
I do not remember the title or author BUT I believe the character was called Charlie Varick or similar.
He was forced out of retirement and has to use his wits, experience and cunning to survive and stay one step ahead.
I read it in the early eighties and could not put it down.Superbly written form main characters POV with excellent detailed description of his techniques to survive and outwit his pursuers
