Does anyone else get annoyed when a quiz contestant says they don't know something because of their age? Young woman on Chase just said that "Margaret Thatcher was out of office by the time I was born, I don't know these things" Grrr!!

I get really annoyed on the Chase occasionally when the rest of the team have generally gone down the middle and then some bottleless last contestant choose to play for £1 so they can share the pot. That is spineless, but yeah I think we can all learn enough about enough things so we have a smattering of basic understanding of where we are in the world, why we are in...

...not scoffing food...scoffing at the contestant...
Danny...I high IQ helps.

I just think it's not very nice to call people thickos for not knowing something.
Tilly ... it was Nelson
Sorry ummmm but being intelligent does not guarantee having a good knowledge.
Thank you, Roslyn.
No, Danny, but not having great knowledge doesn't mean someone is thick.
I agree completely.
Good on you Ummm, sticking up for dimwits everywhere ;-)
I have to....I gave birth to 3 of them :-)

(joking of course)
Arksided, a lack of knowledge does not mean a person is a dimwit. Some of the contestants have been university students whose general knowledge has been abysmal, but they were not dimwits,
;-)
Winking smilie means I was joking.

I know the difference between Knowledge and intelligence.
Danny...I think Arky was joking.
There you go Arksided , my knowledge of emoticons is very poor,
Yes ummmm but it does let the great and good of AB look down on their nose at people and slate those they perceive to be below them!!
Most people with a basic general knowledge would be able to offer an answer that is possibly correct, because a lot of them are the 'obvious' answer - its those who don't even make a guess that annoy me. What I am trying to say is you may not know an answer but say the question is about a river in India then Ganges would be a good guess - not Danube as someone said the other day.
Yes I do horselady. A lot of things were 'before my time' and I'm no spring chicken, but a lot of it is just common general knowledge and things you read about or pick up from TV for example. I know it's a comment that annoys Richard Osman on Pointless!
My OH said Queen Victoria for the funeral in 1806. I had to give him a withering look, as he always laughs at daft answers given on quiz shows.
History is not my thing, but even I know QV died in 1901.
I'm very knowledgeable when sitting at home on the sofa. Put me in from of a camera and I would be a gibbering wreck!
I pick my quizzes on the basis of my hopes of winning.

We have just got back from a cruise, and on sea days, the DJ had an afternoon music quiz, guessing artists and songs, ten from sixties, ten from seventies, ten from eighties, and ten from nineties.

They had about ten teams of four people, and a couple of six each time.

I went to six quizzes and played as a team of one.

I won all of them!

Like I say - pick your quiz!!!
