Long Day!
6 Answers
I had a hospital appointment in Gloucester at 10.20 am. So set off at 9.30, all went well out by 10.40.
OH's daughter coming over from Canada today, her flight should get in at Stanstead about 11.00 am. She will call us when she gets to car rental place.
We go into Gloucester to do a bit of shopping then park up in car park at around 11.30 to await phone call. After about 75 minutes she phones to say she is just getting the car and she will be on her way and meet at Michaelwood services on the M5 at around 4.15.
We decide to go home for an hour and then go to services. We get there about 3.45. She arrives at 5.00. We only had an hour with her then she had to go to drive to Torquay.
The maddening thing was if it had been thought out properly we could have saved everyone a lot of miles and times by meeting on M4 which would have been so much easier for all of us.
Anyway it was lovely to see her and catch up. She looks no different to how she did when we saw her last. We got home around 7.00 after picking up a take away. I'm shattered by so much waiting around, a very different day.

Direct flights from Canada (Toronto) to Stansted don't start until the end of the month. When they do, they'll take 8½ hours, so she must have had an even longer journey involving connecting flights (possibly changing planes in the USA?). Then she'd still got a long drive ahead of her.
Get her to ask us about the best route in future (because Stansted isn't that close to Torquay!). Doing the first sector from Canada into Amsterdam, Dublin, Paris CDG, Edinburgh or Manchester, followed by a short hop into Exeter, would make far more sense!
At least she got into Stansted at a sensible hour though. Whenever my friends ask me to pick them up from there it's usually around midnight (or even later after flight delays).

It would obviously depend where in Canada she was starting from but, at first glance, Primera start flights from Toronto into Birmingham on 23rd June. Air Canada Rouge have seasonal flights into Manchester from Toronto. Air Transat have seasonal flights from Vancouver into Manchester and fly all year round from Toronto to Manchester. It's an easy drive to Welshpool from either Birmingham or Manchester.
(Can't you tell I'm bored? I'm planning flights for people that aren't even planning to travel yet!)
