Why Do People Stink
109 Answers
Ive had to make 8 bus journeys today.
On 2 of them (not one, but two) ive had to sit next to someone who stank.
WHY?
Why cant some people smell themselves?
Ive said before on here that ive got a bit of a thing about personal hygiene and I get that my own personal preferences arnt for everyone. But I just don't get that some people cant smell themselves?
If I sweat, I can smell it. If my clothes smell, I can smell them (and wash them).
I find it obnoxious and offensive having to sit next to people who smell of stale urine and old, unwashed clothes.
Can you smell yourself? I certainly can if I pong?

Sweeping generalisations are never a good idea.
I am very pleased that at 84 your Mum is able to attend to her ablutions so well, many can't and not all have a shower and dare not chance the bath for fear of falling.
Be happy you don't at the moment have any of those drawbacks - I know I am.

I understand that you have a hygeine fetish, that's fair enough each to their own, but just because you haven't experience a deterioration in your personal habits with your mental ill health doesn't mean that other people haven't. If someone is routinely smelly and dirty it's not just because they want to be, it's because they are tired, ill, run down, unaware of it, pre-occupied with very serious issues, depressed, mentally or physically ill. I'm just suggesting that you have some compassion even if you personally can't see what is the matter with them because judging them really won't help them or you evolve into happier healthier people. x
