Does anyone know if there is a time limit on querying whether solicitor's fees should have been levied? 9 years ago the solicitor who dealt with my divorce said I would qualify for legal aid and made an application for me. When I eventually received my divorce settlement, fees of approx �1000 had been charged. I did not have the confidence to query this at the time so paid them but it has always niggled at me. Can I query this after so much time?

I would suggest you are too late, but contact the Law Society for advice.

They will be able to tell you if you have grounds for complaint.

Legal aid is not necessarily free - in some circumstances it is more like a loan which has to be repaid out of any benefit you gain as a result of the legal work. It's possible this is what happened.
