The Everyman haas been markedly tougher since Alan Scott was replaced by the new setter. Why the Guardian, which is always desperate for new readers, should be trying to scare away the traditional Everyman solver base with a much harder puzzle defeats me. The puzzles are good but often verging on full Guardian cryptic strength. And you're right about 'cromlech' - belongs in the AZED!
I like the crossword the way it is now. Yes, it is difficult, but it keeps me well entertained from 8am until late morning. I've never failed to finish it recently, albeit with some help from this website.
