Copying Purchased App From Iphone To Ipad

I use my iphone everyday and back it up reguarly to my laptop.
I don't use the cloud.
I only really use the ipad for surfing and have a few game apps on it. It doesn't get backed up.
What I need help with is this . . .
I have bought an app on my phone but also want it on my ipad. I tried to do it by downloading it from the app store on the ipad but it was just the free version, not the paid version that I got.
What do i need to do please?

PS - I also have a paid app on the ipad that i would like on my phone if possible too!

It depends on the app, some only work on one device, on your iPad go to the App Store and then tap on your icon at the top right and a box should pop up and one of the options should be 'purchased' go into that and then 'my purchases' and there should be a 'not on this ipad' option and in there will be the app available to download if the developer has allowed it.

Thanks Fitzer. However it doesn't look like I'm able to do it.
It isn't on the 'not on this ipad' list to download.
I can see the option to download the other app onto my phone but unfortunately it is downloading the free version and not the one that I have paid for.
Is there anything else I can try?

I thought that when you paid for an app that you could use it on either device. Is this not true then?

You need to use the same Apple ID.

On the ipad there is an option in the App Store to show ipad only apps or iphone apps.

Shivvy, no, some apps will only work on one device, for instance I have the paid for Scrabble on my iPad but it only comes up as the free version on the iPhone. If you say which apps you're talking about we might be able to find out for sure

Tuvok - I am using the same Apple ID.

Fitzer - The apps are 2 games. One is called Fight List and the other one is Fight List 2.
