A Pair Of Queens?
9 Answers
It seems we are having a week of Royal questions, so here's another random one...!
In Britain, after William's ascension to the Throne, and they are King William and Queen Kate, what would happen if Queen Kate were to decide to re-assign gender and 'become a man'? Would they still be called King and Queen? And would "he" be able to ascend the throne on "his" husbands death, or is it bound to be transferred to George?
I know there are constitutional experts paid to anticipate and prepare for every eventuality- I wonder if they've thought of this one?

I should think if some time in the future this situation arose an appropriate title would be found, but the term Consort is gender neutral so could be used

Birth certificates can already be re-assigned. I have seen one - some years ago. However, the wrong facts are being recorded. If in reality a boy was born, called Mark, it is falsifying the official records to say that a girl called Marietta was born. If Mark married, say Jane, the marriage certificate should also be changed, to show that Marietta married Jane. Any children of that marriage should have their birth certificates changed too, to say that their father was called Marietta. Or maybe to state that each child had two mothers and no father at all. People who change sex may want to seem to have been the "new" person all their lives, but the falsifications can lead to an awful mess. Official records should remain exactly the same as they were originally created . Or else they cease to be official records at all.
One of the popular misconceptions about gender re-assignment is that it is possible to change from a woman, which Kate clearly is, into a man - that is simply biologically impossible.
Gender re-assignment normally occurs when a person's body is fundamentally one gender, but there are abnormalities which have created an apparent opposite gender assignment, this is usually something involving deformed genitalia.
The whole fashion about being 'gender fluid' is an oxymoron for a start, and a pointless indulgence of people with too much time to be too self-centred for anyone's good, including their own.
