Hi there
A very good friend of mine who is a wee bit older is married to another friend of mine and he had the heartbreaking task of having his dog put to sleep last week he is very upset although she was 14 he originally belonged to his mother who died and he looked after the dog. I want to get him a wee present to try and cheer him up. I know he is a whisky drinker but thats about it. Any suggestions?

Well if you have any photos of him and the dog, get them enlarged and framed, or if a specific breed of dog get a painting of it.

It was a labrador, unfortunately I dont have any pics of them together that would have been a great idea I might email his wife, she might have some. They have only been married for 1 year. He was 62 when he got married for the first time.
Can you get a photo of the dog from Facebook?
When my friends lab died last year I got her a key ring 'Gone but forever in your heart' with a paw print on it, and a pair of lovely china mugs.
I got a picture from a friend's facebook and sent it to this lady who turned it into a coaster (for the friend's birthday last year) You could get a picture or just find a standard photo on the internet which is a good likeness http://www.franmccaskill.com/coasters.html

that is lovely islay

Gotta be honest, I think the examples shown in the above Link ^^^ are dreadful.
You could always get him a bottle of Black & White with the famous picture of the doggies on the label

I know it's not a keepsake type of gift but are there any animal sanctuaries near you? You could take him to one, have a pot of tea and a cake and see lots of animals that have been rescued and given a new start in life. It might be quite heartwarming for him.
what's your budget?
Get him a puppy.
Clarion you can't get someone a puppy just like that!
Totally irresponsible
Islay, Clarion - I think buying him a puppy is a brilliant (but slightly mad!!!) idea. Personally, I'd love it if I had a million puppies!! But it might be a rather expensive solution to a loss and he might not be ready yet either.

I have a miniature needle felted version of my pup that I had made by a very clever lady, and I commissioned a mini version of my sister's dog for her Christmas present.

She was a local lady, but I've had a look on Etsy and there are quite a few people who can do it! Might make a lovely gift?

Two excellent ideas at 18:33 and 18:42. I would love it if someone was so thoughtful to me had I lost my beloved dog, even though I'd cry buckets when receiving such gifts.
