Pre Diabetic

Doctor told me blood results showed I'm pre diabetic. She said if I can lose weight by exercise and tweak my diet, I should be back to some normality. Anyone experienced this and if so any tips? Thanks.

Ease off the obvious things, sugar, heavy carbs etc, eat twice as many vegetables as starchy ones and, so a baked spud and tons of veggies / salad with lean meat for example and just moderate everything initially. Take the stairs instead of a lift, just small adjustments at first, then build on it. It's annoying but do-able and you have the chance to rewind it :) x
My MIl was given this warning, we went over and looked over her diet sheet and took her shopping for the correct diet, well she had a complete tempter tantrum refused to eat the foods we suggested and filled her basket with sweets and biscuits, 2 years on she is now on tablets and still eating what she wants - refuses to see what she has done and thinks she is OK.
My advise is go with what the doctor says and give it a go.
Good luck xxx

O.K Patsy....let's put this in perspective.
You are NOT a diabetic
The advice given by Kvali is sound, but she is a type 1 diabetic....a different ball game.
NOW...don't let's go over the top with this and your Drs use of the word "tweak" is perfect for you.Just eat what you have always eaten, but less of it...cake, salad, meat, you name it.

Two different friends - one was told by his GP to tweak his diet - he cut out sweets, cakes etc and after a few months his weight dropped and he was AOK. Other friend totally ignored all she was told and now takes daily insulin injections and has real problems with her feet. Think you know which route to take Patsy - good luck.
