I know this probably isn't the proper topic section but I know this is good for getting some good contributions. I am off on holiday in 2 weeks time for a fortnight and although my boyf and I aren't going anywhere we are looking for some inspiration of where we can go for a day out or even an overnight stay. I live in Glasgow but we have a car so could travel if we had to. We don't have a lot of money to spend only about 250 so any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks in advance
Have you done the 'normal' Glasgow things like the museums, galleries etc?
I spend a lot of time in Glasgow (although i live in England at the mo) and the museums, galleries and assorted other attractions are amazing if you haven't done them all.
The Science Centre is a fun day out although will prob be full of kids over the Summer.
The Falkirk Wheel takes up half a day too - and is lovely in the good weather. Combine this with Stirling Castle and you've got a full day of interest!
The Burrell Collection, Pollock House and the Transport Museum are fascinating too. Do i sound like a tour guide...?!!!
The Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum has just reopened so i will be going there soon.
Apologies if none of these are your sort of thing :0)
Yer I was gonna say Scotland is a beautiful enough place, but I do prefer Edinburgh (Sorry). Go on alton towers website you can book their hotels through that and probably gonna be gorgeous weather still, so why go abroad :-)
The Fringe is starting in Edinburgh and every night is like a Saturday and u have all the Street entertainers. Its fab 4 anyone reading this -we are having a mega day out when the actual Festival starts on the 13th August.Recommend the Grassmarket Hotel - just cos I've been there and for 65 a night for a double room with full Scottish its brill.
Wee Kaz- have you thought about Nairn -its fab up there.Thats where we go to recharge our batteries and the craic is good as well. There is an ace caravan park there -Haven I think and you might be lucky enough to see the dolphins and the seals in the Moray Firth!!!
BTW -we stayed at the Braeval Hotel in Nairn and it was ace had a pub attached - just a lovely old house and you just wandered into the bar and it overlooks the sea -Its fab and has just been refurbished -not seen it yet.
O and just thought od St.Andrews - celeb spotting pus the craic and a drive up tp Anstruther (Ainster) for the best Fish and Chips in Britain.Just thought they have a huge caravan park that aw you weegies go to -lol - that woudl be good craic.
These two posts came from the Scottish Tourist Board - lol
Thanks for all your answers guys. I have a few ideas already like the Art Gallery, the Transport Museum, Pollock House, People Palace so thanks for them Fee.
As for the Edinburgh Festival I did look at that but it didn't seem like my kinda thing, although I didn't see the street entertainments stuff (if you pardon the expression) mostly opera, classical music etc.
Alton Towers sounds like a good day and I will look into Nairn as well. Cheers x
