According to the BBC website, the man who has killed 10,000 greyhounds has done nothing wrong. Did he declare his 100,000 pounds earnings on his income tax returns,do you think ?

I know it's legal to shoot wild animals like foxes, if you possess a licence, but does this extend to domesticated animals like dogs? Are slaughtermen allowed to kill one animal in the presence of another as seemed to happen in the case of the two greyhounds shown on the news last night?

hear hear engineer i wuold agree 100% with you. Anybody that gets there jolies from slaughtering animals should either be killed themselves or put in mental hospitals with the criminally insane.
It angers me so much when i see people who horrifically abuse and neglect animals getting nought but fines and community service. what we need is a damn tough stance on these peolpe.

Greyhounds make blisteringly good pets we've had a couple from the Evesham Greyhound and Lurcher Rescue

if any of you fancy one, a very worthy organisation who vet homes very carefully and really srive to set you up with the perfect partner dogs, which are often fine with cats etc.
We run a racehorse rescue and you get the same problems with them, people buy them bc they are cheap one they've finished racing and beautiful but need time, schooling and patience, they get kicked off a few times, get scared stiff of them, they do the rounds of the dealers and often end up as meat.
I think wardy is right about shooting dogs though, i don't believe it's deemed to be cruel technically, so I doubt he'll be prosecuted unfortunatly.

This throws into sharp relief the difference in attitudes between people who only see animals as a financial investment, and those who regard them as either pets, or as species worthy of better treatment than this.
I would imagine the individual was paid in cash, and there is nothing for the IR to prove that he has been paid for his services, so bringing an evasion case would be impossible.
This man simply regards shooting and burying dogs as a job - he has no sentimetal attatchment to them what ever.
In terms of the law, he has destroyed these animals humanely, and is thus exempt from prosecution.
The moral argument of what he does will rage on, but as i always say on these occasions, unless you are a vegetarian or vegan, you have no moral right to cplain about ill treatment of animals, it is hypocracy so to do.

I think this fuss is a class thing..What do you think happens to a foxhound when it gets past it's prime? What about race horses that are not considered suitable for breeding and geldings? Very few of these amimals are rehomed and the biggest example is dairy cows; they all end up dead before their time. Think of that when you next open a tin of cat or dog food.
I think its the boldness of him charging the money then us knowing how much he earns.
I know what you mean about people too fond of animals, there are right and wrongs.
And thankfully at the touch of a button we do now know alot more what goes on around the world.
When i worked for the environment agency i was sickend how much they didnt care for the environment, all it was to them was getting money out of people to then do the work, and just before i left ,the company bought 600 mitsubishi pajeros to ride about in .So if the people who are meant to look after the enviroment dont care then what chance do we have.

Hi DrusillaIS, it's not a matter of animal welfare, which is why I made my point about meat eaters. I am a meat eater, the animal that provides the meat I eat is killed according to a legal process which minimises pain and suffering.
From the facts i ahev ascertained from the media stories, this man is killing dogs in precisely the same way - with no pain or suffering. So, in my view, to get in a state about a man who dispatches dogs in this manner, while continuing to eat meat from an animal that was killed in the same way, is hypocrycy.
I think I was a little vague in refering to 'ill treatment of animals' which, as you quite rightly point out, is a separate issue.
The point I wished to make is that any meat eater complaining about the way tese dogs were disposed of is, in fact, a hipocryte.
Sorry if i didn't make my point clearly - i am against animal cruelty as much as anyone, but the way in which these dogs were destroyed does not appear to be 'cruel' - the reasons why they are destroyed is a different issue entirely - and separate from the actions of the man in the news story.

Sorry mate ,but if you ever had a dog you would not say that there was ''No Suffering''. To be removed from your enviroment and taken to a place of slaughter and, probablly, smells of it is suffering I believe. Also your reply presumes that Abattoirs are NOT places of pain and suffering,if you had seen the secret video of the Anderlecht slaughter house you would ,Certainly, not hold this belief.
