Its uncomfortable yes, but it stops hurting after the first few strips as your sensory nerves calm down and get used to it. Housemate is Beauty Therapist says if your really worried, take 2 paracetamol 20 mins before treatment to quieten the sensory nerves. Also, make sure your beauty therapist is experienced as they will work quicker than a trainee. You need to relax, I know thats difficult when your anticipating pain, but if you can focus your mind on something else and relax, after the intial few strips, you should be fine. x Whatever you do, dont have a hot bath/ shower/ perfumed products/ saunas for 24 hours after, your skin will be really sensitive.
Oh, and the longer the hair, the easier it is to wax, if you have little stubby hairs, the therapist may have to go over the area again to pick up the shorter ones, or tweeze them out.
I agree with the above. Whatever you do don't go to a trainee-I've had layers of skin removed once-and that is only thing about waxing that has ever hurt!!
I tried to do my bikini line myself once - my advice; don't.

It does hurt when they do it but not as much as DIY!

Other than paracetamol, a pharamcist (sp!) friend of mine tells me you can buy an over the counter numbing cream - they type doctors sometimes put on your hand before they put an IV line in. I only know this because we were talking about how much tattoo's hurt and she suggested that. No idea what it's call though.
If you're thinking of using a numbing cream check with the salon first. You arent; supposed to moisturise before waxing , skin is supposed to be clean and dry, so cream might not be best idea. It really isnt that painful honestly, make sure hairs are long enough to get caught by wax properly but I advise not to have too long hair on bikini because that just hurts more, a cm is plenty.
Hi xJx - I just went on holiday and had my bikini line done for the first time a few weeks ago!! I was absolutely terrified and almost cancelled the appointment but didn't want to be 'smuggling seaweed' on holiday so knew I had to go through with it!! It was really not as bad as I thought!! It did hurt but only for a split second!! The first time you have it done, your hair folicles go onto shock so it might bleed a little (pin-pricks only) and if they are good they'll start with the left side first (apparently thats the side that hurst the most!!!). But it was over in about 10 minutes and really wasn't that bad!! I didn't get my legs done cos I have very fine blond hairs there but I would imagine that it would be no more painful!! Good Luck!!
