House Sale Turned Into Auction

Friend recently viewed a property which she really liked, and put offer in of full asking price. However she has been told another couple have also offered the full price. Two full offers , so now the estate agent has decided to make it an auction and keeps ringing my friend to say the other interested party have offered more. My friend has declined to be dragged into a bidding war , and spoke to the owner who knew nothing about this . He thought that whoever meets his asking price, he chooses which person he sells too . Sounds a bit dodgy from the estate agent

Not dodgy but common practice to try and get as much for the vendor as possible because it means the estate agent gets a larger commission.

naughty.....the estate agent is the agent of the seller. He/she has a duty to report all offers to the seller unless the seller has instructed them differently.

My daughter was buying a flat last year and made an offer that was accepted.

Then the estate agent rang to say a higher offer had been made so my daughter pulled out.

The flat was still on sale a few month later so I think the estate agent was just "trying it on" with my daughter.

No wonder people hate estate agents.

very naughty. If I was the seller I'd terminate the estate agent and not pay them at all, due to breech of contract, then I'd sell to the person who first offered the asking price. Frankly I hate these leeches almost as much as I hate lawyers.

Or alternatively the owner is being less than truthful and is happy for the estate agent to try to rack up the price.....just saying......

everyone wants the biggest price - seller and estate agent

if you get two interested - then this is common place
and always elicits howls of anger from the punter / jarn, punters sorry

fact of life ....

No of course the seller wont fire the estate agent for trying for a higher price
I wish people would give serious advice on these threads ....

well you have a choice
you can make poncey remarks and take a potential loss on the house
or you can let an estate agent sell it ....
