Travel routes Denver Airport to Culbertson, NE
7 Answers
Friends of mine are hoping to travel from Denver Airport to Culbertson, Nebraska to visit friends in a few months, (they'll be flying in from the UK) and as non-drivers, they're a bit worried about how to reach their destination. I've tried Googling on Greyhound, but they don't even seem to recognize Culbertson as a destination!
Any clue how they would reach Culbertson from Denver Airport by public transport, or even if it's possible?

The SkyRide bus service will get your friends to downtown Denver:

For the remaining 258 miles, things then get very difficult.
Culbertson is a very small village (with a population of around 600). The nearest town is McCook, which is about 13 miles away. There's just one train per day on the line betweeen Denver and McCook. This link should show the timetable but I keep getting a 'damaged file' message. (Maybe you'll have better luck):

If that link doesn't work, use the journey planner here:

From McCook your friends would probably need to find a cab. The only public transport in Hitchcock County is provided by Hitch & Hay Public Transit. There's no website (or email address) for their services but your friends could phone them to find out if there are any convenient services for their needs. From the UK, the number is 00 1 308 276 2182.
The Greyhound website's list of locations served in Nebraska doesn't mention McCook (or anywhere else nearby), so it looks like the daily train service to McCook is their only option.

I'd not read Mushroom25's information when I posted (because it took me over an hour to research my own post). I've just taken a look at the Dashabout Shuttle website. I note that the phone numbers on their home page are '1-800' and '1-866' numbers. Those are 'toll free' numbers that can't be accessed from outside of the USA. To call from the UK, your friends will need this number:
00 1 970-345-6613

Great Lakes Airlines fly from Denver to McCook - which may seem a more viable option. From McCook presumably they could get a cab.

Actually there's two flights a day in and out of McCook (MCK) via Denver International IDEN) on Great Lakes Airlines. The equipment flown is a very acceptable Beechcraft 1900D seating 19 passengers at about 275 mph seen here: http://www.airplane-pictures.net/type.php?p=11 0 ...(There's no flight attendant nor rest room but the flights are always short) It's pressurized and a standard, fully equipped aircraft serving smaller communities, especially out west (where I live). Here's the schedule:

Although the time schedule indicates 2 hours of flight it's not really since you would be crossing a time sone. Leaving DEN in Mountain Standard Time (MST) you lose an hour going back to Central Standard Time (CST).
Once in McCook youcan rent a car from Avis; http://www.avis.com/AvisWeb/home/AvisHome
I wouldn't let the spectre of driving in the U.S. bother you. Not only is it simple (we do drive on the right side of the road) but it's only about 20 miles from McCook to Culbertson.
At any rate, Welcome to the U.S.!

In such cases, I prefer to rent cars. Recently I went on a business trip to the States. I flew to Denver and took the car that I rented here before https:/ /rental 24h.com /usa/de nver-ai rport
