I remember everything about that day....what I was wearing....the weather....seeing my dad in the distance on his way to work and not calling....hi, Dad!
Fifty years ago to me then was a lifetime.....so far away I couldn't imagine it...but here I am....
It was the day my dad died...so unexpectedly.....x

Mine died when I was 7.
(Said with a soft Kerry lilt whilst stroking my ginger hair...)

Me neither, Dave....and for my friend, Jo....we had so many plans for when we were both sixty......she didn't make it but told me to live for both of us...and I do!

Hmmmm.....I believe you, Shoota...but it's Kerry red..not ginger!..x
My dad died in 2008. There was an earthquake in Feb that year. I was sitting by his bed trying to go to sleep in a chair and when I felt it I thought he'd fallen out of bed.

I dread fathers day. It's not just the day itself, it's the build up with all the adverts on TV. By the time the day arrives I'm already emotional.

I adored him.
My dad died on Christmas Eve in 1963. As you say, it's strange the things you remember, I was watching a programme on telly called Whirlybirds about helicopter heroes, I remember what I was wearing and the exact words my mum said when she asked me to go to the phone box and ring for the doctor, I ran down the road crying and a neighbour sort of took over. The house was full of smoke 'cos the mince pies got left in the oven.

I recall that earthquake, Ummmm......it was just before MrG went into hospital for the last time.
Our bedroom sloped a little anyway but everything started to slide of the chests of drawers......I thought the roof rafters had given way and I'd have to carry MrG out of a collapsing house... :-)

I recall Whirlybirds too, Horselady......really loved that programme....
Sad Christmas memories for you....xxx
I was two and a half and my sister was 6 weeks old, dad died after a sub arachnoid haemorrhage. I don't remember him at all, the many pictures of us together mean nothing. I only ever heard good things about him so he didn't even seem real.
My father in law died on my daughters birthday, which also happened to be Father's day that year. This year we are making happy memories as she is getting married on Sunday.
Joining the links in a chain of memory Traci - have a wonderful day.x
same here, gness, except a few months later. I did say goodbye, but it wasn't significant, neither of us imagined it was for ever. A nice sunny day; I didn't hear the news till I came back in the evening.
My dad's last words to me were, 'See you tomorrow, duck, all being well.'

I can still hear him saying it.
last saw my old man above the King Harry Ferry on the Roseland...we had lunch at the pub near there at Philleigh, he was dying of the big c (bowel and southwards) and the ex and I parted to go back to 'ampshire and London.

A final hug and that was it, the next time that I saw him on the slab....and looking peaceful (ok, I know its the skill of the undertaker's make-up).
