Did any of you see the BBC documentary on Grenfell a few days ago?
Beyond words. We saw a shattered community holding each other together in the glaring absence of any local or central government help. All religious communities working together with no hint of disdain or exclusion. The fire service, and later the police, doing what they could, devastated though they too were by what they were forced to deal with.
And anger. Hot, justifiable anger, at every aspect of a totally avoidable tragedy.
We should salute and respect this west London community.

Bainbrig also takes issue with Danny because he asks a simple question that ‘he’ regards as a dig.

Human tragedy, whether it affects someone on a personal level or not is entirely, well personal and one persons ‘had enough of the wallowing’ is another’s ‘time of weeping’.
It does not show that one is more caring than the other or more callous per sa but that information is processed differently and perhaps that some people get fed up of the constant gnashing and wailing.
Personally I don’t need to watch any programmes on the tragedy. It happened and people involved and have been affected and continue to be affected.

for someone who loses the plot so often, I can still answer straighforward questions....
The offer has to fit - altho compare it to a one hotel room - and west ken council who er still havent apologised initially said - "narfin to do wiv us luvvies" - because they had hived it off to an arms length organisation.
werent they the ones who closed up the council offices early on Friday, and said to the homeless um scroungers, "well come back on Monday and we'll see if we can do anything!" ? - certainly nothing to apologise for there then!

didn't see it... hopefully lessons are learned as to the building and safety requirements..many sad stories..and the community spirit is a wonderful thing... sad to see the few who scammed and lied to make monetary gain by it...a few in jail..same happened with 9/11... the council would appear to be trying to resolve the housing issues for those still in temporary accommodation..however there are cases where unreasonable demands are being made..councils simply can't magic up housing to tailor meet some expectations...
// the EU Ecoloons made them put that cladding on. //
No they didn’t.
There are a lot of things that the EU is responsible for, but this isn’t one of them.
The UK Government have initiatives about not wasting energy (and therefore cutting unnecessary emissions).
But the cladding of Grenfell was done primarily for cosmetic reasons, not the cut residents’ electricity bills. It was part of a general refurbishment of the property. The cladding used was not the most insulating, it was the cheapest.
And the Ecoloons did not make them use cladding that was not flame resistant and was therefore a deathtrap.
We will have to wait for the investigation into the cause, but how this (cladding) product was used on Grenfell, and hundreds of other tower blocks in the country, is surely a national scandal and demonstrates a failure of regulation and inspection on a national level.

This type of programme should not be allowed whilst an inquiry is taking place.
We are seeing far too much of this tragedy and it is horrible what those tenants went through, but the media are milking it for all it's worth so as to get their "coming together" message over followed by the sickly grins of self satisfaction by the news readers at the end of the reports.
They well may be "coming together" amongst themselves but they show no "coming togetherness" towards the authorities or even the inquiry chairman.

Yeah, that'll be the EU ones we signed up to, gromit.
( Energy Performance of Buildings Directive.)
No doubt we had and have our own eco warriors who want to clad everything. I think it's fair to say that, at least in part, this was the result of the law of unintended consequences.

It's all the slurs, subtle and not-so-subtle, that appall me - from the innuendo of 'these people turning down offers of accommodation' (blimey, they can't be THAT traumatised, can they?), to Pedant's nonsense about Londoners whinging while Mancunians just got on with coping - anyone who watched the documentary would realise that was an outright lie.
It really is appalling. My plea at the start of this was that people should watch this documentary, then take an informed view - a documentary in the tradition of 'people's voices' that the BBC do so well, not 'well-informed talking heads banging on' - but no, the Usual Suspects come on, trotting out their Usual Prejudices, their Usual 'I know what I know' nonsense.
Answerbank is very useful for finding out how to undo a rusty nut, or to put up a shelf, but any attempt at reasoned humanitarian debate is wasted here.
Will my answer get removed if I quote from Matthew (bible guy)?
Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.

Bainbrig, I am getting rather tired of your continual sniping,You, might care to read the link, and the apologise.

What is it with some of our lefty posters, lately?
Unless you agree with every view they hold, you're branded as uncaring, hateful, and of course, a Nazi.
If you only want to hear from people with similar juvenile views, there are plenty of left wing echo chambers on the net.
They're boring as hell but I'm sure you'll fit right in.
