Taking pets overseas?
5 Answers
Dear all,
I am thinking very seriously of leaving the country to live in Malaysia for the next 2-3 years. One potential snag I have is in the form of two cats, which I absolutely have to take with me, if I can! Does anyone know what the rules are for taking domestic cats abroad? I know different countries have different legislation on this, and have heard loosely of something called a 'Pet Passport' - but if anyone has any detailed knowledge, say of websites I can check, or perhaps what the official England-Malaysia agreement is on this, I'd be most grateful to hear.
Thanks once again for any help on this.

I have a fried who took her dog to tenerife, and it has since become the most miserable pathetic thing, because it simply can't cope with the heat. The dogs personality has completely changed

If you're still keen on taking your cats to Malaysia, there is a website ( http://www.jphpk.gov.my/English/Health.%20kura ntin%20.html ) that explains about Malaysian quarantine requirements.
Basically, the UK is a 'Schedule Country' and as such animals imported into Malaysia from the UK do not require quarantine (this is dependent on species, although I'm sure cats fall into this group).
You can contact the Department of veterinary Services in Malaysia at the above website and they will be able to tell you for definite what the legal requirements would be.
Hope this helps!
