Ooh, I love a pencil. Whenever I go to a museum or wherever I always buy a pencil. Don't know why. I just like them, even though I have a favourite pencil that must be found when I'm doing my crosswords. How sad? Don't answer that :)
Pencils? How very 1900s.
What else is there, hopkirk?
:)

My other thing is Christmas and birthday cards. I have a massive pile going back 20 years +.

of course you need pencils for puzzles unless you are one of the smartarthurs who do the listener....
I must admit I like stationary and have a lot, more than I would ever need too, but I also have an enormous pirate chest of buttons which I sometimes make costumes with, and this creeps people out if they find it accidentally, I do taxidermy so I have a lot of knives, scalpels and instruments for that, as well a formaldehyde and other chemicals in a rather nice field box, it's a bit 'Silence of the Lambs' if you don't know I do it and it's freaked a couple of people :)
My stash is DVDs and history books. I don't mind getting rid of the DVDs but I couldn't bear to part with my books.
Empty beer bottles... Will have to return them eventually
I have a husband who hoards golf and Beatles memorabilia, mint condition original programmes, Victorian and Edwardian golf balls and clothes - OMG, has he got an obsession with designer clothes! Every now and again he gets rid of a few bits on eBay and he gets a ridiculous amount of money for them.
Hold on to your pens! They may become collectors items!

Had a chap around to quote for a bathroom refit, he was reeling off all sorts of figures for this, that and the other. I said "oh hang on I'll need to write this down".
Not wanting to leave him standing there I said "could I just borrow your pen a sec".

He looked at me quizzically and said "sorry, I don't have a pen, everything I need is in here" pointing to his iPad.

Well I'm well aware they are useful but looks like kids these days note everything on these things.

Give me a good old fashioned pen any day.
I have lots of pens. I love calligraphy and always try it. I have fountain pens, quills, bamboo pens etc so I'm with Minty on this one. Rowan, all of those pens are used for everyday things and don't seem to have any speciality attached to them, maybe the CD pen. But he must have needed them.
Hb pencils are the only reliable lead for pitmans light & dark strokes but theyre either no rubbers or useless hard rubbers. Trouble is welshie nicks them for his carpentry :(
I too have loads of embroidery threads. Mine are now a tangled mess of every hue!!!

Kvalidir you are weird
When I was at college my mate used to collect his empty Coke cans.

He built them into a huge triangle against his bedroom wall.

One evening I managed to extract a few without it collapsing, and used them to build it higher.

He told me next day that he wasn't happy, as the whole lot collapsed at 4 am. He was asleep and thought the world was ending.
