New To Android Tablets - Trying To Set Up My Huawei. Help Please Urgent!!
9 Answers
Hello. I am elderly and new to Android tablets (my laptop is Win10). I think I have managed from downloading the instn manual for my new Huawei T1 8.0 4G tablet to have got it working properly but there are a couple of points I cannot fathom!
When I start the tablet it automatically connects to my BT home hub but I have now put in the slot a 4G sim (have tried it away from my house and it connects fine). My problem is that this morning at home I switched on the tablet and it shows a little EE in the top l/h corner and to the right top a little 4G icon and a signal strength. Sometimes the EE has a tick by it and sometimes not? I am worried that whilst at home I am automatically connecting to 4G and using all my data - BUT when I go into settings it shows my BT home hub as connected and 4G EE does not seem to appear on the list (should it)! I am not clear about my settings so am I on BT home or 4G now? I thought it would automatically go to 4G when out of range of my home or must I take some action to do this?
Another thing I can not understand is this. I was told to put a micro SD in the other slot on my Huawei which I did so that I can have extra storage. I am about to transfer from my Laptop via usb connection some of my photos, How will I know that they will be stored on the sd card and not in my tablet's storage?
Sorry to seem dense but please explain in simple terms what I must do - especially the first problem re. 4G.
Thanks everyone

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Not too sure about the first problem, moggie, but there should be a File Manager app on the Tablet. Just open that and you should be able to see the hard drive of the Tablet and your Micro SD card. As long as you don't accidentally transfer the data between the two, it will stay on the Micro SD card.
Whilst I don't have sufficient experience of the Andriod operating system nor of that tablet, I'd say that it was a poor design that a) didn't use trusted WiFi when it's connected in preference to a mobile data network, or b) didn't note the card and automatically use it.
I do know it's difficult to get executable programmes on the card, although I think later versions of Android may be less frustrating in that regard.
Hopefully someone more experienced will post a definitive answer soon, just in case there are settings to tick.

I am far from experienced with Tablets However, a quick look through the Manual for the Huawei T1 8.0 4G, says on page 13........."When both a Wi-Fi network and a mobile network are available simultaneously, the HUAWEI MediaPad connects to the Wi-Fi network by default. If the Wi-Fi networkdisconnects, the HUAWEI MediaPad then automatically connects to the mobile network"
The following is a link to download a free copy of the manual to which I have referred :-

I routinely use Android for my phone and tablet.
I can't remember if I set it, or whether it is default, but if there is a WiFi connection, the things automatically use that in preference to the roaming/mobile data connection.
THis sometimes causes issues when travelling, as the wifi will try to connect to a shop or other open connection. Because it has connected to the wifi, but not logged in, there is no data transfer.
The work-around I use is to switch wifi off when travelling, or on the move, to put all the data over the SIM card.
When I specifically connect to wifi (at home, or in a hotel or coffee store), I the wifi on and switch mobile data off.
I also subscribe to a VPN and when using public wifi, engage the VPN, just to ensure a bit of data security.
It's not really any hassle and gives peace of mind
As to storing images on the micro SD, there are (free) apps that allow you to manage files and folders. I used to use ES File Explorer, but had some issues with that being a bit too intrusive and setting off alarms when I told it not to.
Just as a tip, I tend to try out three or four different Apps for any given function. You download one, set it up, give it all the permissions and see if it works for you. If not, delete it, and try another.
I'll probably try File Manager* next - look them up on the Android store.
*Other Apps are available

Thanks Hans..and IJ.....
Hans- thank you for sending me the link. That solved the problem re. the default. I missed this in the little booklet that came with the phone so I have now downloaded the PDF for the tablet to my laptop. Great!!
Also IJ...you came up with similar and also about the micro SD card I have found it shows as so many gb for each and the card shows as installed.
Thanks everyone for coming back so quickly.

Thank you everyone I have now managed to set up my Huawei Android except for one thing - I have tried for hours to solve this and looked at manual!
On my old Win 10 tablet when I wanted to download a couple of movies on to it from my Windows Laptop all I did was to transfer them on using a usb cable I either did this and they appeared on the tablet in my docs OR I kept them on a memory stik and inserted it when I wanted to watch them on the tablet and it worked and they played automatically. Have tried this by doing the following but cannot view the plugged in usb with the files on it. I opened file mgr on tablet! I did this......and I pressed 'local' at the top and all the films apeared in a list but when I tried to open them it just said 'cannot open'! Have no idea what to do from here as I successfully transferred all my docs I needed using the same method and they appeared saved in docs and the audio files in audio. There is an icon for video files but that says files 0.
What have I done wrong? I feel they are somewhere in the tablet but where.
Thanks again

Just thought I would let the forum know that I have now solved the problem I had with downloading from my Win 10 laptop to my Huawei android tablet. The videos on my laptop were originally down loaded from YouTube and as these were the only videos I could not transfer I decided to put a Video Downloader app on to my tablet (not all will work with YouTube it seems!) and I then downloaded the videos again direct from YouTube and suddenly they appeared in 'videos' in file manager!
Thanks
