I assume this question is about President Trump. My answer is - a confident person who thinks s/he can help people and that said people will respond appropriately with liking. As good as I can do.
Every politician says they're putting the interests of their country first. It's a meaningless soundbite. Trump's spending cuts have caused considerable harm to a number of Americans, as has his gutting of environmental and conservation programmes. His trade wars with his immediate neighbours have provoked unnecessary tariffs on American goods. The Republican party under his leadership has put open white supremacists and neo nazis up for election across the country (e.g. Arthur Jones, Russel Walker, John Fitzgerald). This would have been unthinkable before. That's obviously pretty contrary to the interests of Jewish Americans, black Americans, gay Americans and more. Or do their interests not count as 'American Interests'?
The money helps though, Naomi. The money sure helps. As does being in the public eye prior to standing for nomination. I've always respected American Presidents, even the really stupid ones, but i cannot respect a guy who comes across as the playground bully. Wonder how many times he took the ball back home with him when he was a kid and he wasn't getting his own way.
How do you go about "assessing" US presidents, Ken?
Their aims? Their policies? And how effective the policies might have been in achieving the aims?
Have they left office leaving the world a safer place? Or America a more prosperous one?
Can you give examples of Presidents who by your standards have done well or badly?
