They can only be detected if they hit an atomic nucleus 'head on' which is VERY unusual. Then there is the fact that that neutrino must have started its journey just after the Big Bang, that was the beginning of the Universe. They travel near the speed of light so its journey has taken over 37 Billion years.
The "ice cube" detector is an astonishing bit of kit.
