You’re given examples – 194 of them – demonstrating that the New Testament is neither accurate nor reliable which you make no effort whatsoever to examine … and instead of addressing the obvious error in your original post you revert immediately into victim mode claiming you are concerned only with your relationship with Jesus Christ…. your walk with God – which since you insist on trying to convert the rest of us simply can’t be true. Gosh, how you suffer for your faith!!

Incidentally, 30 years and you still haven’t read the bible? Why ever not? Do you read only the bits you want to read – or are you just not that keen?

Responding a little late to last night's posts -
Canary , at that time , the early church is under persecution - doing this would not have given them power but likely a jail sentence or even a death sentence .
Naomi , Paul was not a stranger and I don't accept that those who knew Jesus disagreed with him . Paul took the gospel to the gentiles with the blessing of Peter . When they met Paul recognised Peter's leadership . Early suspicions about Paul were because he had persecuted them as Saul - he participated in the stoning of Stephen .
Can you explain Saul's motive for converting from a high - ranking protected Jew to choosing to join a movement under persecution which eventually led to his martyrdom . I doubt if he did it because ha was seeking power .

Benhilton, Paul was a stranger. He didn’t know Jesus, he never heard him speak and, if we are to believe Paul at all, there is no doubt that there were tensions between him and Jesus’s followers. Jesus said he came for the Jews alone. The people Paul was ministering to were not Jews. They were idol-worshipping, uncircumcised, Gentiles. Therefore those who had known Jesus were justified in their criticism of Paul. Why did Paul hi-jack the story of Jesus – or was it Mithras? Why does any would-be cult leader harbour delusions of grandeur?

I'm sorry to be the one to point this out Theland but you don't have a 'relationship' with Jesus Christ. It is simply not possible to have a 'relationship' with someone who does not exist. He may well have existed long ago but he certainly isn't alive today. It is of course possible to have had a relationship with someone who is now dead but that relationship is in the past tense and you must by definition have known them personally whilst they were alive to qualify as having had a relationship.

So how exactly does your alleged 'relationship' manifest itself? Does he speak to you in your head? Do you hear voices? If the answer to either of those two questions is in the affirmative, you need to seek psychiatric help. If you're not hearing voices, then you have no 'relationship' with Jesus. You may routinely ask yourself, “What would Jesus do?” but that doesn't qualify as having a relationship any more than routinely asking yourself, “What would Elvis do?”.

You can attempt to emulate Jesus and you can admire him from afar through the lens of time but claiming that you have an actual relationship with him – either literal or spiritual – displays a worryingly tenuous grip on reality to those of us who don't seek praise based on vicarious virtue.

There is an ecstatic religious experience, Birdie, which some Christians describe as "being born again", others as "being baptised by the Holy Spirit" which give exactly that emotional experience of personal connection with the Divine. I met many such when I ran away with the (hate speech alert) "gypsies" in my early teens.

The Pentecost example recorded in Acts:

" While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God."

In my experience none of the fundamentalist Christians who had experienced this ("delusion" as you and I would see it) were the worse people for it. In fact I found all those I knew to be extremely kind and gracious.
