Stopping a rug from slipping

I am in the process of having a wood floor laid in my hall and have a lovely rug that I want to use on it but wonder if it will slide and perhaps be dangerous for elderly relatives. Does anyone know of successful methods of preventing this. I have seen various non-slip gadgets advertised, that one attaches to the rug, but previous purchases of this type did not live up to the advertising claims.

We put, (now sorry, but can't remember it's proper name) lines of that rubbery, gluey stuff used to seal bath edges, in wavy lines underneath the rug.

Or slightly easier to remove, any DIY store will sell non slip rug tape.

Boo, we have wooden floors throughout the downstairs rooms.
You can buy rolls of non slip backing which you put under your rugs and they stay in place. I can't remember where I got mine but it was probably Homebase or a carpet shop. It's very effective and I would recommend you try it.

I bought a piece of underlay that is used for fitting carpets. But one thing you must remember NEVER polish under the rug because even with a non slip backing it will slip. As I found out to my own misfortune.

Boo, I think Copydex is what you are talking about . I remember it being recommended as an anti slip coating.

A half a dozen nails is pretty effective.

I was worrying unnecessarily about the rug on the wooden floor, it hardly moves at all but another problem rug, this one on carpet, was very successfully anchored by using a non-slip sheet like this
