Without a decent playmaker in midfield we will struggle against the best teams, if someone could actually make the pass there would be more players willing to make the runs Henderson isn't it.

I think Sterling's problem is he is still too selfish, delaying passing on the off chance he can get in a position to shoot. Not a problem with man city where the skill level of his team mates is higher but not so good in a team where there isn't an Aguero, or David Silva backing him up. He was at his best when he was one of the Liverpool front three with Suarez and Sturridge before his injury problems,

rowan...I agree with you re, Henderson and the England midfield, but not about Sterling who, even at Liverpool ran around like a headless chicken and couldn't score and i couldn't understand why Man City wanted him.

We are a long way behind teams like Belgium in that we don't have players of the quality of DeBruyne or Hazard to unlock defences and our defence doesn't have a Vincent Kompany that can organise the defence or an Mbappe to terrorise defences. But we are showing a lot more confidence in possession at the back, passing our way out of trouble (a few hairy moments though) and now just need a couple of Modric/Hazard/DeBruynes in the middle and someone to replace Harry Kane when he is struggling as he seems to be at the moment.

He did ok at Liverpool but with the other two he had a lot more chances, he didn't play so far forward but was good at bringing the ball into the attacking third. I think he'd have been a better player if he'd stayed. I have no personal ties to him as I support a different team.

I thought Henderson played quite well during the competition. OK he isn't a Pirlo but he certainly wasn't the weak link. The pair of Alli and Lingard were the weak links for me. They are both adept at touches but don't control play as they should. Kane played midfield to help out for much of the time, which might be why he wasn't so effective up front.

So, having looked at all the replies, it would seem that we are all agreed that England aren't good enough and never will be. But we will still be reading the tabloids at the next World Cup and believing that England will win it.

Overpaid? Do you have any idea of the size of major tennis Players, prize pots or net worths?

Fairies? Did you know that many players and I’ll bring your attention to Murray who pulled out because of an injury and didn’t play as he didn’t want his position to be //downvoted// and to lose several of his lucrative sponsor deals do opted to not play at at all? At least footballers dive but get up to play again and furthermore diving is an educated tactic to swerve the game to their advantage, otherwise known as cheating but still.

Lastly there is more skill, psychologically and tactical decisions involved with 11 men trying to get a ball past another skilled set of 11 men in a huge football field with many variables then trying to get a ball over a net as in tennis?
