the royal mail have lost my passport in recorded delivery - will they pay for a new one? and will i have to a complete another application form/ signed photos for the passport or will the passport office , as a friend states, "re-issue" ? and just send a "copy" as my details will be in their system?

Royal Mail will pay up to �32 for the loss of a recorded delivery item.

Are you sure it's the Royal Mail though? The passport office usually sends passports out by courier these days.
