It is four letters and answer is rank as confirmed by https://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/Quizzes-and-Puzzles/Question854662.html but couldn't see the quarrel bit. The Metro rehashes the Dundee Courier

i can see the row (quarrel) and row (line/rank) but can't work out the significance of "it's coarse"
