my husband and I both need our passports renewing. Do we have to get these witnessed again? Also we need to get one for our son. could his nursery witness his? How much are passports now? Thanks, Vanessa

Yes, it's just like a first time application. Witnessed and new photos. Be very careful with the photos the passport office have very strict guide lines now.

Nursery can't witness your sons, try your health visitor or doctor.

It says in Yorky Lass's link that you DON'T need it rewitnessed if your old and new photos are sufficiently alike.

Your son's will need countersigning. If his nursery has someone who describes themselves as a teacher, then they are OK, otherwise consult the list in the link.

For your husbands and your passport, as long as you are still recognisible from your old passport and are ONLY renewing it (it can have run out), you can do it all on line via the ukpa site. Fill out the form on the site, they send it to you to sign, you send it back with photos and old passport, they hand deliver new passport. Mine took 8 days from start to finish.

I suggested it should be treat as a new application because that is what the Post Office said to a colleague ( she must have aged a lot in 10 years - lol ) they thought it best. Think they are taking the new photo rules very seriously, or he could have just not known of course.
If you do need them countersigning then the same person would be able to sign your sons too.

When applying for childrens passports it's YOU that the countersignatory needs to have known for a minimum amount of time (is it 2 or 5 years?) not the child, I discovered this when I applied for my childrens passports two years ago!

No, you wont need to get it witnessed. I got mine renewed last year and for a renewal you do not need it witnessed unless you look a lot different from the original photo
