Do You Support Crowd Funding ?

I’ve just been browsing cyberspace (as you do) and became fascinated by the Crowdfunder website. I believe other such sites are available, and this is NOT an advert for this particulr site. There are hundreds of appeals for funds on this site, with a great variety of issues. Many of them have attracted NIL funds so far, and I have listed below a few examples of these.

Have you ever contributed to this site ?

Have you ever tried raising funds this way ?

I would be interested in hearing people’s experiences. (I have in the past contributed to several appeals).

Does anyone know whether the integrity of these appeals can be checked out independently ?

I have donated occasionally - only because it is the site of choice for work colleagues and friends trying raise money usually either for a sponsored event or collecting for a family misfortune.
I'd never donate to anything random.

Jason Manford, on a Saturday evening, through his FB page, nominates a crowdfunding charity and asks his follows to give a couple of quid. They call themselves Charity Ninjas. This week they raised £10000 for a lady to have reconstructive surgery to her face after is was eaten by necrotising fasciitis. It's addictive, and heartwarming, watching the money go up, and up and up.
I wouldn't give a bean to any of the nonsense ones that you mentioned above.

Erm... you’re meant to research your donation first rather then donate then ask anonymous strangers is it a a good idea tbh.

I always follow up on any donations I make, in truth I answered incorrectly - I don't support the sites but the people.

As when one of our Member's Daughter was raising money for a charity dear to her heart.

We still ask how she is doing now.


I'd no more give to some of those items listed in the OP than pay for a Trump blimp.

Better things to do with my cash.

Hardly, pushing your hard earned loot into a crack/smack head or alcoholics hand is totally different to investing in the latest idea with a chance of getting shares and becoming rich.

I occasionally sign petitions, donate to things through JustGiving, or do a spot of crowdfunding - in fact I think there was an ABer not long ago doing something strenuously athletic for a good cause; I put a penny in that pot. I can't say any of the ones you list appeal to me, but if they did I'd consider donating.
