I had a springer. We had to make sure if we ran a bath to put the cold water in first because if the bathroom door was left open he'd jump in it. He'd play in puddles for hours on end.
I've had a cheap plastic one for small kids for my dog for the last two summers, didn't have to spend a fortune.
Question Author
It's arrived and water has been added. She's not too impressed at the moment...
She might surprise you Tilly.
Give her time, she could suddenly decide to try it out. You might then have trouble getting her out of it.
Question Author
At the moment she's giving me a wide berth. :-)
Question Author
I put her ball in the water and she was nudging it about from the edges of the pool. Then, I picked her up and put her in the pool. She was out of it like a shot!

Perhaps if I throw some biscuits in, she might just 'dive' in.
A dog in a paddling pool?

That counts as a big news story here in Suffolk!

I bought a paddling pool for our labradors. They really did not get on with it. I had success with one of the black doohdahs that you mix cement in. Not deep but they would lie in it.
A friend uses an under bed plastic storage box and her dogs love it.
Anyway she may get used to it in a while!
Postdog has just bought a paddling pool for his dogs, he got life jackets for them too.

I had always assumed that dogs liked water - my first dog used to dive into the River Tay with great enthusiasm. My next dog was terrified of the ripples in the boating pond.
Have you tried standing it it yourself? Maybe that would encourage her in
'in' it
Question Author
She does love water. We have a job to keep her out of the river when we walk that way. She has hydrotherapy every week as well. Contrary little madam.
I'll try standing in it...

Contrary little madam

are you sure that she isn't a cat!
Question Author
She could be, Woolf. A cat in dogs' clothing.

Then again, she does not like cats.
We got one for our dog a couple of weeks ago. He barked at it, drank out of it but wouldn't go in whatever we tried to do to encourage him. Finally we gave up and emptied it. Then he got in it. Blooming dogs!!
Question Author
I know where you're coming from Rosetta. I am not going to empty it just yet. She might get used to it by November.
