Was it the Heartburn Hotel?

Sounds very much like "One Summer" I think.

I can vaguely remember it. It was definitely called "What Now ?" I'm sure some of the intro had him, his girlfriend and/or his mate on the Mersey Ferry.

I think it was on either BBC 2 or Channel 4. Can't remember much else sorry.

...are you sure it's not called "going out?" written by Phill Redmond?...
I'm sure I'm thinking of a completely different programme but hey-ho. There was a series called 'Help!' about 3(?) young men - it was set in Liverpool, was in the eighties and guess what the feem toon was?
there was indeed a show called What Now produced by Phil Redmond, and I think it was on channel 4, but I don't know any more details.  sorry to be vague!

'What Now? was a drama series set in the 1980's, which reflected the events, expectations and mood of the decade - from a teenage perspective. The series focussed on a group of young people fresh from school, who had enrolled onto Government Youth Training Schemes and then found themselves out of work. The series - with the lead characters cast from the extensive pool of Merseyside acting talent - followed on from Phil Redmond's controversial drama series Going Out which was produced by Southern Television in 1981.'

It aired in April 1986 according to this link:

I adored this programme and had it on tape for ages and ages went to play it once and it was all warped and horrible, wish I;d kept it anyway cos it was part of my growing up.  Vic McGuire was Ray, his mate was Derek.  Their girlfriends were Jules and Har (Harriet) also had a made called Gosgo Gosling but he died :-(  Remember a classic line from Hat to a jealous Ray "I'm not going to spend the rest of my life talking to women, poofs and priests".  Pure genius, should be repeated.

Do you remember the music?  OOOh what now, what now?

God, let's reminise some more!

If you are looking for info on Phil Redmonds 1981 drama series Going Out, go to my site at www.going-out.org.uk
Thanks Dave
going out was shown on ch 4 and was about a group of kids who had left school. sean tinnersly was played by marcus francis and he went out with kathy whom roger said would be like kissing a cheese grater. dikey had been on the dole for a while. there was a character named sammy who got teased about being gay. i had it on video and it was well watched. unfortunately someone taped over it but i still have the book wich has been read several times. other people were talking about what now. i still have the majority of it on video...and yes, i still watch it. while we are on 80s shows does anyone remember anika with jesse birdsall...yes i still have that on video. i am a sad nearly 40 year old who relives her youth of the 80s through the good old vhs!!!!!
what now was filmed by my house in knotty ash my local pub the greyhound was called the fast dog in the series. i used to follow the film crew around when they were filming but you cant get a copy nowhere there was 8 part series back in 1986 i loved it id love to buy it has anyone out there any ideas where i can buy it come on mr redmond can you please release it
I am trying to find into about this too.

It was about 3 lads from Liverpool and think it lasted only a couple of series, but I loved it. I THINK it was called "Help!" (or had the Beatles song Help as it's theme tune) but not sure.
"What Now" did happen, 'cos I was in it
I've still got a copy to prove it...
I've got the first 3 episodes of What Now on video (from the repeat run when they were shown as hour long episodes so two joined together), sadly I'm missing the last episode.
