Such a simple thing..the paper clip. But how are they made and does anyone know of any books about them

(there's a lovely picture of a patent sketch for a paperclip making machine - absolutely fascinating - well it was to me anyway).

Invented by a Norwegian engineer - another useful bit of information.

Paperclips are also very useful for demonstrating "work hardening" in metals !!

Actually ~Boo. I find the subject quite interesting. I've just finished a book about drying times of different types of paint, so thought i would read one about the life and times of a paper clip!

Oh dear tonyted - it was a joke!
Not only that, but where do they make things. e.g. have you ever opened a bottle and found a little white cardboard disc that sits inside the lid, or on top of the bottle neck, that's just loose and doesn't appear to do anything and you usually throw it away? Where do they make those? Where's the factory where people spend their days turning out little white throwaway discs?

Is someone, somewhere, having a secret huge laugh?
