Not that it makes any difference, the doctrine of transferred malice is well-established under Common Law and provides no grounds for mitigation. "I didn't mean to hit A, I meant to hit B" will get you absolutely nowhere. It does not negate the Mens Rea of intent; in past times it led some to the gallows.
