Mobile Phone Problem

I have an OMO Q2 so-called Smartphone. Basic kit but does all I want except:

When the phone is switched on and "awake" I can answer incoming calls. (Caller's details are displayed, simply touch the phone symbol by those details to speak). However, when the phone is switched on but "asleep" the caller's details are displayed but "greyed out" and a greyed out phone symbol is displayed surrounded by concentric flashing circles. No symbol on the screen enables me to speak. Swiping the screen simply rejects the call. Not a lot of good really. The User Guide does not mention making or receiving calls (in fact it does not mention much at all), almost as if the facility has been added as an afterthought after the User Guide was compiled.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Is the icon like number 4 in the attached, in which case it says you swipe upwards, no idea how likely this is as I'm an Apple user :-)

On my Android phone calls are answered by swiping up.

However the instructions for your phone simply say "When the device is ringing, tap Answer"

Thanks both.

Yes, it is like No. 4, Fitzer.

Unfortunately swiping up simply rejects the call and there is no "Answer" icon to tap. I only noticed this problem a couple of days ago. I rarely receive incoming calls (mainly because only three or four people have my number). I tested out the incoming facility when I got the so-called phone about four months ago but I did so when it was "awake" so it worked OK. I'm going to try a factory default reset (meaning I'm going to have to re-enter all my contacts, bookmarks etc.) and if that doesn't work it's going back.
Don't know if this is any help, but with my android phone, if it is asleep, I have to swipe to the right to answer and to the left to cancel. Worth a try?

Thanks, ubasses. I'll give it a go before I do anything else. One of the problems is that you only get about six rings before it cuts to voicemail so it doesn't give you much time to look at things and decide what to do. I think it's designed for those people who feel it necessary to walk around with a phone clutched in their hand permanently!

Just tried to find User Guide on line, they're usually better.
Problem, is it OMO or IMO?

Sorry Balders, it's my error. It's an IMO Q2 (I must have been thinking of washing my smalls when I posted my question!). Thanks for the link. I'll have a butcher's.
I have a Motorola phone and had a similar problem. It was cured by following thse steps

Settings > Sound & Notifications > App Notifications > Phone - Make sure “Block all” is not enabled. (The toggle should be grey and to the left.)

I also found a help page that suggests the following will allow you to extend ring time before voice mail kicks in

https://help.virginmedia.com/system/templates/selfservice/vm/help/customer/locale/en-GB/portal/200300000001000/article/HELP-2172/Virgin-Mobile-phone-support
Just a further thought:
When I first got my current phone I was driven mad because certain things didn't seem to be happening when I touched the screen. It took me a while to realise that I was 'pressing', rather than 'tapping'. i.e. instead of allowing my finger to make the briefest possible contact with the screen, and then bounce back off it, I was letting it linger there (even though it was only for perhaps half a second or so).

So you might find that the briefest of possible taps (within those flashing circles) is all that's needed.
BTW the length of time it rings before voicemail is set by your provider and normally defaults to 20 seconds, 30 is the maximum so you could ring your customer support line to get it set to 30. There are a sequence of codes to do it yourself (and they have been mentioned on here before) but you do need to know what the voicemail divert number is before using them so easier to get them to do it for you.

Thanks all.

No, the default is 15 seconds and (with Virgin) it cannot be changed for those customers who joined after December 2017.

I've tried all your suggestions and alas none works. But thanks for all your efforts anyway. I'm going to try a factory default reset (in case I did anything when I was setting up ringtones, etc). Then I'm going to contact Virgin to see if they can help. If they both fail I'm going to consider whether to keep the phone or not. I'm in two minds because on one hand I think it is ridiculous to sell a phone which is so difficult to simply answer a call. On the other, with just 15 seconds before it switches to voicemail, it is most unlikely that I will get to answer most calls even if I could (since I don't walk about with a phone clutched in my hand) so I will have to ring the caller back anyway. I'll consider putting a voicemail message to that effect on my number. I can only laugh (with despair) at a company which makes a phone which you cannot answer!
//However, when the phone is switched on but "asleep" the caller's details are displayed but "greyed out" and a greyed out phone symbol is displayed surrounded by concentric flashing circles.//

Sorry if I'm being silly, but what exactly do you mean by the phone being "asleep"? The phone is on but the screen is off?

Yes, Kromo. Not silly at all, my terminology was.

Thanks for resurrecting my question. I forgot to report back that I've solved the problem. Sliding too the right when a call arrives answers it. Many thanks to all.
