As anyone else noticed that there are dozens of White butterflies about this year and very few coloured one. I wonder why this is.

Yes, they're all cabbage whites, large and small on buddleia and lavenders when normally they are predominantly coloured.

Yep, loads. My garden was a jungle and although it had to be cleared it made me terribly sad for the butterflies and bees.
Would it be anything to do with the plants in your garden Pudcat? We have lots of white butterflies around the vegetable garden, but we have peacocks and red admirals too.

I never get butterflies even tho I live in a pretty good green area. However tonight a little butterfly passed the window and yes it was white cos I was looking for a little colour but was grateful for the white

Yes I've had both white and coloured.

I wondered if there are generally more this year or whether it was because I put in a lot of new plants last year that are really growing now?
Ive got a really big bush of pink lavender plus two other normal coloured lavenders, hollyhocks ans foxgloves , plus lots of other flowers this year, but havent seen a single butterfly this year, not even a cabbage white one
Yes, and my cabbage leaves are a mass of holes, but there’s enough for both of us.
Bleached from the sun ?
I think it will depend on the type of garden that you have . I have a lot of trees and loads of holly and ivy buddleia and even nettles, the caterpillars need the right plants to live on.
this week I have seen a speckled wood, some holly blue, red admiral, peacock and large and small whites
I have got all the right planting for a mixture of butterflies but yes, many many more cabbage whites than other kinds this year
Last year millions of Whites decimated my brassicas, so this year I constructed a netting cage over them - the Whites therefore have fled elsewhere, that's why you're seeing more - sorry folks, but my brassicas are brill this year.
